People don't assume it of me. They don't do anything, because they don't know that I'm Muslim. Maybe because of their prejudices of Muslim behavior, they don't realize that I'm Muslim. Someone did say something offensive at a frat party one time and I went on a rant. 8. What they see in the media and their exposure to Muslims. They have an unfamiliarity with it. When people say "Oh you're Muslim," it means they had a preconceived notion of what a Muslim was. 9. It means you identify with more than one culture. Many people like to think of it as racial but I like to think of it as having different perspectives. 10. Honestly, no. I feel like people don't really accept everyone. Frat guys always have specific requests for girls they hang with. 11. Answered above 12. Drinking. It's religious but also other reasons. Alcohol is inherent and it doesn't fit my vibe. If I was more strict about alcohol, I wouldn't have even rushed. Also, modesty is a big thing, and I want to look good for me, not for a guy. 13. I've lived here since I was 5. I am an American but I don't limit myself to that identity. I want my kids to know their ethnic background too and speak Bengali. |
